Michael O'Brien - Principal

The founder of Emergensys, Michael is a seasoned consultant, technologist and specialist in human factors engineering, with an expertise in collaboration solutions and emergency response. He has overseen projects in BP – including a group crisis centre and initiatives for BP Shipping, BP Air, BP Angola, BP Azerbaijan, BP Iraq (SOC/BOC). Michael has also delivered high-profile engagements in Shell  and set the global standard for Shell’s high‐end collaboration systems including Emergency Operations Centres. Notable projects include FLNG Prelude and Shell Australia, Shell STASCO and Woodside Petroleum. Michael has deployed a new Emergency Response Centres across Angola, for TOTAL and Sonangol. He has also been involved in projects for Sonatrach (Algeria), Gupco (Ras Shukheir), and AIOC (Azerbaijan) for both onshore and offshore facilities and the BTC pipeline.


Outside of the Oil and Gas industry, Michael has consulted and delivered projects for the UK Royal Navy – UK and Kuwait (Submarine Command), UK GOV Civil Contingencies Secretariat, UK GOV Cabinet Office (COBR), India Gujarat GOV – Dholera city‐wide surveillance and incident command centre, UAE – Abu Dhabi Environment Agency (EAD); and Environment Crisis Support Centre for British Airways / One World Alliance – OCIC (EOC) London Heathrow
